ICDE conferences have become popular focal points for co-located workshops on topics related to data and information management. Continuing this trend, ICDE 2008, to be held in Cancun, Mexico, from April 7 to April 12, 2008, plans to feature a number of co-located workshops. Proposals for workshops are hereby invited and should be submitted, in pdf format, to both of the Workshops Chairs by June 27, 2007.

The following information should be taken into account when preparing a proposal:

  • Co-located workshops must be on topics that are of interest to ICDE attendees.
  • Workshop duration can be 1 day (April 7 or April 12) or 1.5 days (the afternoon of April 11 and all day April 12). Workshops will be held at the same location as the main conference (venue assignment is at the discretion of the local ICDE 2008 organizers).
  • All workshops will benefit from the registration process of ICDE 2008.  A fixed amount (depending on the workshop duration) will be charged per workshop participant for meals, refreshments, etc. Beyond this, workshop organizers are free to set their own registration fees as they see fit, depending on publication and other costs.
  • Each Workshop proposal should contain all pertinent information, including the following:
    • workshop title
    • short description of the topic and format of the workshop
    • motivation for why the proposed topic is likely to be of interest to researchers and practitioners of data and information management technologies
    • names and contact information of workshop organizer(s)
    • names of members of the program committee (at least 50% have to be known and confirmed at the time of the proposal)
    • mode of proceedings publication
    • important dates (paper submission deadline, notification deadline, etc.)
    • expected number of participants
    • preferred duration and workshop dates (before/after ICDE).

The decision about acceptance/rejection of workshop proposals will be made by the Workshops Chairs (in consultation with the General and Technical Program Chairs). Evaluation criteria include overall proposal quality, complementarities with respect to the expected ICDE 2008 program, and availability of venue capacity. Note that proposals are especially encouraged on emerging topics that are relevant to data and information management, and are not already covered by the main conference. Notification will be given by August 1, 2007.

The organizers of successful workshops will be responsible for their own reviewing process, publicity (e.g., website), and proceedings. They will be required to closely cooperate with the Workshops Chairs and the ICDE 2008 local organizers to finalize all details mentioned above, provide input for publicity to the ICDE 2008 organizers, etc. In particular, local organizers may require that all workshops adhere to a specific general timetable to facilitate catering. Note also that workshops with fewer than 20 registrants may be canceled at the discretion of the local organizers.

Please note that only accepted workshops are official ICDE workshops and enjoy support as mentioned above.
