Call for Industrial Papers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sebastian Salvucci
Thursday, 15 February 2007
The Industrial Track Program Committee solicits submissions covering innovative commercial implementations or applications of database or information management technology, and experience in applying recent research advances to practical situations. Such papers should describe innovative implementations, new approaches to fundamental challenges (such as very large scale or semantic complexity), novel features in information management products, or major technical improvements to the state-of-the-practice. This track should not be viewed as an alternative route for research papers merely having industrial authors or the potential for future application – relevance will depend upon demonstrated exploitation of the technology by a real product or application.

The goal of the Industrial Track is to foster the exchange of ideas, solutions, best practices, and requirements between research and industry. Industrial Track submissions may be either full-length papers whose technical density is comparable to research submissions, or extended abstracts of approximately 4 pages. Possible subjects include, but are not limited to:

  • Data integration, interoperability, and metadata
  • Systems, platforms, middleware, applications, and experiences
  • Industrial-strength systems based on database technology
  • Application of database technology to new areas or data types
  • New combinations of database technology with other technologies for special needs
  • Unique experiences designing, implementing, testing, and deploying information systems
  • Reporting of pitfalls, challenges, and difficulties
  • Adapting database technology to industrial requirements
  • Financial justification of information systems and life-cycle costs
  • Administrative challenges, techniques, and best practices
  • Tooling support for database development environments
  • Master data management and entity resolution
  • Data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and load
  • Novel metrics and benchmarks of information systems
  • Business process engineering and execution support
  • Web data engineering, including search and data mining

Examples of application areas for database technology include, but are not limited to:

  • Bio-Informatics, Life Sciences, and Medical Systems
  • Developing Countries
  • Content Management, Digital Libraries, and Search
  • Electronic Commerce and Finance
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Enterprise Data Management
  • Enterprise Resource Planning
  • Geographic and Environmental Information Systems
  • Government
  • Home and Personal Applications
  • Humanities
  • Retail Systems
  • Scientific Databases
  • Telecommunications
